Kant on Biology and the Experience of Life

چکیده

Recent years have seen remarkable advances in the life sciences, including increasing technical capacities to reproduce, manipulate and even replace living nature with the products of human artefact. These developments raise important questions about our understanding of that which we call ‘life’. If, as science suggests, there is in principle no difficulty in engineering the living world in the same way as we build and construct the non-living world, then what is the ground for our distinction between the seemingly so self-sufficient and self-determined living beings and the apparently inert and inactive non-living parts of nature? If the difference between the living and the non-living cannot be based on the distinction between that which escapes and that which is within our control and manipulation, what makes our experience of a blossoming tree so fundamentally different from the experience of a piece of woodwork? In light of the advances of the biological sciences and an increasing interest in the philosophy of biology, Kant’s treatment of the living deserves particular attention. Kant’s account occupies a unique position.

Kant and Demystification of Ethics and Religion

Kant's demystification is meant to put away any metaphysical and revealed elements from ethics and religion. Kant’s Philosophy of Religion and the Challenges of Moral Commitment

Kant believes that the concepts of a just and compassionate God and the life beyond death spring from our rational need to unite happiness with virtue. This article tries to argue against this apparent incon...

Kant and Hegel on Aesthetic Reflexivity

The paper aims at reevaluating a conception of the aesthetic that was developed by Kant and Hegel but that has been widely neglected due to the fact that their positions in aesthetics have been wrongly considered to be antagonistic to one another. The conception states that the aesthetic is a practice of reflecting on other human practices. Kant was the first to articulate this conception, but ...

In the present paper, we will attempt to provide the main principles of Reath’s claims and demonstrate why...

Following this, there is a brief account of the relation between Hegel’s ethical and religious thought. Hege...

The Psychological Element in the Phenomenological Analysis of Human Subjectivity

The aim of this paper is to depict the psychological element in phenomenological analysis of the human subjectivity. This analysis should be considered within the philosophical context provided by philosophers of 18th and 19th centuries, and very specifically by Kant as his transcendental philosophy was a turning point for later debates on the human subjectivity. In this paper, I will consider ...
